Uses and Insights: Plai, as this plant is known as in Thailand, is a spicy member of the ginger family. The root has a long history of medicinal use throughout the tropical regions it’s native to. A poultice of the mashed root is commonly used as part of Balinese massage. As an essential oil it is most often used in topical aromatherapy applications and to bring unique aromatic notes to aesthetic blends.
